Two days of Heartbreak

Not that i am a passionate follower of football, but cometh the world cup season, I make it a point to watch a good majority of the matches. Obviously we get too watch the best players.

Following football leagues around the world are not possible except few european leagues ( the EPL, and spanish league, too much of media coverage and over hype..especially english Clubs). I was also amused to see the british press crying hoarse about Cristiano Ronaldo being traitor.

But last two days were days of heart break for me as Argentina and Brazil were knocked out. I could'nt help feeling sorry for Argentina. France deserved the win against Brazil. Zizou showed why he is rated so high and his ability to rise to the occasion. Yesterday he was in good form with some delicate dribbling and passes.

Ronaldinho was a great dissapoinment yesterday and was nowhere in picture. Ronaldo atleast found the ball quite a few times.

With both the south american nations going out....it will be a game with a ball rather a ballet with ball with the exception of zizou.

Chennai

Chennai hosted me last few days. I am visiting the city after around 3 years. My previous visit was with my bike from Bangalore.
I could'nt but do a few copmarisons on chennai and Bangalore.
Climate - No comparisons.....Chennai is a Pressure Cooker.

Traffic - comparable. Less intersections and more Flyovers. Faster moving traffic in heart of the city.

But one thing in which bangalore scores over chennai in traffic is the alertness. In chennai you need to have your Sixth Sense on...if you donot want to bang into somebody with your vehicle and get banged. The variety of modes of transport and beings that use the road is more. cycles, pushcarts, bullock cart to Buses and trucks use all the lanes of road. Cows, dogs and humans(of course!) have the right of way( you hit him and you are at fault...even if you are right by rules!!) . And the Climate adds to your discomfort and stress of driving.
Roads....almost the same....may be worse in chennai in the City.

Food......Chennai....Without doubt...(of course taste lies in individual taste buds)...especially south Indian Vegetarian.
Cost of living.....Less comparably....and there is space for each and every section of people.
But less cosmopolitan.

I am happy to be back in bangalore........

Picnic of our department

Sunday,22 January was a new experience for me. Which i thought would be dull and boring turned out to be a good camraderie. The departmental picnic which I understand has not taken place in atleast 10 years was a grand success. The Cricket match involving Professors students, their family members was exhilarating with everybody taking part with Enthusiam.

The topic of eveteasing

I happenned to stumble upon this blog by Jasmeen Patheja. And this guy seems to voice the impressions some of those "diseased" as well as "cultured men" as some "educationists" do have about dress codes.

There is some wonderful job done by jasmin in educating people.

You can get all of them here

Davinci Code

I read Davinci Code after a lot of "good opinions " from many. I had initially thought the book to be boring after around 25 pages and stopped reading.
The most tough part was to get to around 60 pages after which the novel takes off...and read the novel whole night till 7 in the morning today...around 20 pages left to finish when the climax has infact passed. (my eyes are still thick and red with sleep)

Infact the book is really engrossing and educating and can easily see why it was a best seller.
The programme on National Geographic/History channel made it much easier to understand the background of the book. Probably European history is well documented/preserved so as remain so long. It makes the "claims" in the book that more credible. The book unleashed me into new realms of quest. The book corroborated what people think of Da Vinci as a Genius but his other side (although claimed) was news.

In case of India it cannot be termed ( Vedas, ramayan, Mahabharata) as history as there is no evidence of such an historical artifacts. Perhaps we Indians were not bothered about preserving history which is unlike europeans or the americans( who have there short history well Documented).
